Ealing Labour have successfully lobbied to reopen the entrance at the south side of Hanwell station and are hopeful that Hanwell residents will have a new south entrance by next summer.
At a packed meeting of Hanwell Community Forum on Tuesday an Ealing Council spokesperson announced that the council is also exploring an innovative solution for a lift at the station and are progressing with a design. Active discussions with TfL and Crossrail are underway to identify funds for the project.
Hobbayne Councillor, Labour’s Ray Wall said:
“This improvement doesn’t have to wait for Crossrail to be completed and we are hopeful that it could be implemented much sooner than 2019 (when Crossrail is complete).”
“Meanwhile we are keeping up the pressure for four trains an hour and a Sunday service. Our local petition has received tremendous support from Hanwell residents and we have now collected hundreds of signatures which we will present to TfL in the next few weeks.”
Elthorne Labour Councillor Yoel Gordon said:
“We have had some success but we are keeping up the pressure. Our goal is for an excellent local train service that is fit for the 21st Century and serves all of our community. I am delighted that progress is being made on one of Labour’s manifesto commitment for the people of Hanwell. This is further evidence of what this Labour council is delivering for the people of Hanwell.”
