Peter is the Leader of the Council at the London Borough of Ealing. He has led the Ealing Labour Group since 2021, and was first elected as a Labour Councillor in 2014 and represents the area of Southall Green.
Setting out his ambition for an open, inclusive, and transparent administration for Ealing, the council’s priorities are:
- Rebuilding our economy, returning good well-paid jobs to our borough and delivering the next generation of genuinely affordable homes.
- Re-growing and re-wilding our borough by tackling the climate crisis, cleaning our air and ensuring the borough we build is sustainable.
- Relentlessly tackling poverty and inequality that blights too many lives and disproportionately holds back all too many people from achieving their dreams and aspirations.
He led Ealing’s Labour Group to its first historic fourth consecutive election victory in 2022, securing the largest group of Labour councillors since the formation of the council in the 1960s. The Labour group he leads is also the most diverse. Over 50% of Labour’s elected members are women, with 60% being from Black, Asian and other minority ethnic communities.
Appointed to the Council’s cabinet in 2016, he initially was responsible for the local authority’s work in economic resilience, skills, and employment. After coordinating the Labour Party’s winning local manifesto in 2018, he took on the role as cabinet member for housing and planning, as well as a cross council role in overseeing public service reform.
Professionally, he is a trained town planner, holding an MSc in Urban Regeneration from the Bartlett School of Planning. His background is in public policy, spending time working as a campaign organiser for the Labour Party at local, regional and national elections, as well as for the Labour Party in local government and Westminster.
Very active within the Labour movement, Peter serves on the Labour Party’s National Constitutional Committee, as well as the London Council’s Labour Group on the London Labour Regional Executive Committee.
Peter was National Secretary to the Jewish Labour Movement between 2013 to 2021.
